Here is our latest vlog from Kofu, Yamanashi—Mitake Shosenkyo Gorge. Shosenkyo is renowned for its breathtaking rock formations, crystal-clear streams, and serene hiking trails. It's a place where nature's artistry is on full display, making it a must-visit for adventurers and nature lovers alike.

Getting to Shosenkyo is easy and convenient. There are three bus stops from Kofu Station that will take you to various starting points for your hike:

  1. Shosenkyo Valley - “Shosenkyo Guchi”

  2. The beginning of the gorge - “Greenline Shosenkyo”

  3. The top near the falls - “Shosenkyo Taki Ue”

We chose to start our hike from Nagatoro Bridge, near the “Shosenkyo Guchi” bus stop. The hike spans approximately 4 kilometers and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete at a leisurely pace. Along the way, you’ll encounter stunning natural beauty, including dramatic rock formations and peaceful streams.

Kofu City, located in Yamanashi Prefecture and home to our parent company, Lucky & Co., Ltd., is steeped in history as a gemstone hub. This tradition dates back nearly 1,000 years when raw quartz crystals were discovered on Mt. Kinpu, nestled deep within the Mitake Shosenkyo Gorge. These crystals, coupled with the innovative techniques developed to craft them, formed the bedrock of Yamanashi’s flourishing jewelry industry. Over time, this expertise also led to advancements in artificial crystal manufacturing, solidifying the region’s reputation as a leader in gemstone artistry.

The Shosenkyo Gorge area is truly a geological wonder. It features waterfalls of varying sizes, massive stones, and uniquely shaped rocks that have been sculpted by erosion over countless years. Many of these rocks have earned whimsical names based on their resemblance to animals, objects, or landmarks, such as a mushroom or Mt. Fuji.

As you approach the end of the hike, you’ll arrive at the iconic Senga Falls, a powerful and picturesque waterfall that’s perfect for capturing memorable photos. Beyond the falls, you’ll find several charming shops and restaurants offering local delicacies and souvenirs. It’s a great spot to relax and refuel after your hike.

For those seeking even more adventure, continue your journey to the Shosenkyo Ropeway. This short, 5-minute ride takes you to the top of the gorge, where you’ll be greeted with awe-inspiring views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding landscape. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, we highly recommend hiking to the Yasaburo-dake peak. This additional 15-minute trek rewards you with a 360-degree panoramic view of Mt. Fuji and Kofu City. The experience is nothing short of magical, offering a perspective that few get to witness.
