Take in the Views & Visit the Komitake Shrine
Snap some photos of the breathtaking views and visit the Komitake Shrine for a little spiritual energy.

Hoshino Hakkai:

Sometimes we cannot go up to Mt Fuji 5th Station; in this case we will go to Oshino Hakkai. A picturesque village that’s a designated World Heritage Site as of 2013. This quaint village is famous for its eight crystal-clear ponds fed by the snowmelt from Mt. Fuji, filtering through layers of volcanic rock for over 80 years. The water here is so pure, you can drink directly from some of the ponds.

Here are the top 3 things you must do while you are there:

1. Try the Kusa Mochi
Enjoy this traditional Japanese treat made with yomogi (mugwort) with sweet read bean as a filling. It’s often sold at local shops near the ponds.

2. Drink the water
Taste the pristine spring water from Mount Fuji at designated spots.

3. Take a picture
Stroll around the ponds to enjoy the stunning views of the crystal-clear water, koi fish, and reflections of Mount Fuji. Don’t miss the thatched-roof houses and small shrines that add to the area’s traditional charm.

Lunch:

Enjoy a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant in the Fuji area. We recommend Hōtō!

No trip to Yamanashi is complete without tasting hōtō (ほうとう), the region's signature noodle dish. This miso-based noodle soup is packed with thick, flat wheat noodles and an abundance of seasonal vegetables like pumpkin, mushrooms, carrots, and daikon. The noodles are chewy and rustic, almost like udon but a softer and doughier texture.

What makes hōtō special isn’t just its comforting warmth but its deep connection to the region's culture. It’s said to have been a favorite of the famous warlord Takeda Shingen, who is the warlord that once ruled Yamanashi prefecture. Today, it’s a beloved local staple, often enjoyed in traditional irori (sunken hearth) settings or cozy family-run restaurants around Yamanashi.
