Inspired by One Piece: Designing Jewelry for Iconic Characters

At L&Co. Japan, many of our designs are influenced by Japanese culture, symbolism, and storytelling. From samurai armor to kanji and traditional patterns, our goal has always been to translate elements of Japanese identity into wearable jewelry.

One of the biggest cultural influences in modern Japan is anime, and naturally, One Piece became a source of inspiration for us.

With the live-action adaptation becoming the number one show on Netflix in multiple countries and topping global charts, One Piece has proven how powerful its story and characters are across cultures. It has grown beyond anime into a global phenomenon, connecting people through adventure, loyalty, and unforgettable characters.

This led us to an idea: what if One Piece actors wore L&Co. jewelry?

Designing Jewelry Inspired by Characters

Each One Piece character carries a distinct presence, and we wanted to translate that into subtle, wearable jewelry pieces. The goal was to create a design that felt minimal, authentic, and connected to Japanese language and storytelling.

As part of this concept, we designed and gifted a necklace inspired by a new character appearing in the second season.

The Number 5 Necklace

We customized one of our existing necklace designs for “Number 5,” played by Camrus Johnson.

In One Piece, numbers are more than labels, they represent rank, role, and identity within organizations. Mr. 5 is part of Baroque Works, where agents are defined by numbers, making “5” a central part of his character.

The necklace features the kanji 「爆」(Baku), meaning “explosion,” engraved on one side as a reference to Mr. 5’s bomb-based abilities. On the opposite side, the kanji 「五」(go) "five" is engraved, referencing both his code name and the character tied to it.

Have a look at him styling it below.

If you are interested in customizing your own necklace, you can create one with us as well.
