Kofu Castle Ruins: The Hidden Gem for Cherry Blossom Lovers 📍

Best time to visit: Late March – Early April

If you find yourself in Yamanashi during cherry blossom season, don’t miss the breathtaking sight of over 150 cherry trees in full bloom at the Kofu Castle Ruins. Tucked right in the heart of Kofu City, this historical site transforms into a pink wonderland for just a few short weeks each spring.

Just a 5 minute walk from the station!

Walking along the ancient stone walls, you’ll be surrounded by a sea of delicate blossoms. From classic Yoshino cherry trees, to the soft pink hues of Higanzakura, and the layered petals of Yaezakura, this place has it all. The cherry trees are beautifully framed by the Inari Tower, the rugged castle stones, and on a clear day, Mount Fuji in the distance—making it one of the most photogenic hanami spots in the region.

Hanami, which means “flower viewing,” is a beloved Japanese tradition where friends and families gather beneath the blossoms for picnics filled with food, drinks, and laughter. But be warned—cherry blossoms are fleeting. With only about 10 days of full bloom, timing is everything.

Whether you’re here for the history, the photos, or just to soak in the fleeting magic of spring, the Kofu Castle Ruins offer a quiet, local vibe far from the Tokyo crowds. So pack some snacks, invite your friends, and catch this ephemeral beauty before the petals fall like pink snow.
