In the animal kingdom, affection is often shown through small gifts—some offer food, while birds present feathers or flowers. Humans have done much the same since ancient times, exchanging tokens of love to be worn and treasured. The tradition of gifting jewelry as a symbol of romance is timeless.
Necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets. Each piece of jewelry has a long history, and wearing it has a special meaning. Below we will talk about the significance of each piece, which is something you can think about the next time you gift someone jewelry.
Jewelry isn’t just decoration—it’s memory, meaning, and emotion cast in metal and stone. A ring can speak of eternal love, a necklace of connection, a bracelet of protection, and earrings of beauty and self-expression. These pieces become part of the wearer’s story, passed down or worn every day as a quiet reminder of who gave it, when, and why.
Whether it's a celebration of love, a gesture of friendship, or a personal milestone, jewelry has the unique power to hold emotion in a tangible form. It’s not just what you wear—it’s what it represents.
Necklaces:
A necklace can hold the meaning of "protection.' It is said to be the oldest accessory, it is popular to see it as a talisman. In ancient times people tied stones, shells, plants and flowering into strings and made them into amulets for protection.
Now gifting a necklace can be a sign of commitment, love, friendship, cultural or religious significance, or through expression such as your zodiac, birthstone or initials.
Customization
A lot of our necklaces offer customization options, allowing you to personalise it to you or your loved one. Whether it be your name in 'kanji' character or your choosing your favorite 'kanji' Japanese character, we can also help you in deciding.
Birthstones
You can choose to wear your birthstone according to your month! Each month has a specific birthstone, which is a perfect personalised gift that can be aligned with initials as well.
Cultural Significance
Necklace worn with cultural significance can be a form of personal expression and connection. We have our wagara collection which showcases different types of Japanese patterns displayed in necklaces: The Seigaiha, Karakusa, Shippo and Kikko patterns. Auspicious patterns symbolize good omens and positive signs. Traditional Japanese patterns, unique to Japan, serve as lucky charms. This single diamond pendant features an auspicious pattern motif on the side, paired with a simple front design. Crafted with 0.10ct diamonds and a yellow gold chain, this necklace is perfect as a gift for someone special or as a personal talisman.
Earrings
In ancient times earrings were worn across many cultures; they were seen as amulets for status, protection or spiritual meaning. In some traditions they were seen as protecting the ears from evil spirits.
Now there are diverse meanings of wearing earrings from personal style, culture or religious or social status.
Minimal Everyday
Sometimes we want clean and classic shapes to be able to wear everyday. We have our L&Co classics that come in all metals and shapes. They add a touch of style for any occasion.
Rings
The ring is a circle, which signifies "eternity." It has long symbolised love, loyalty and commitment. Since ancient times, rings have been worn to represent power, status and protection.
Today, rings are often gifted as symbols of love to engagement and wedding bands. They can also represent achievements, milestones, personal style or cultural identity. It is also said that rings have different meanings depending on which finger you wear it on. You can stack your own rings or be worn alone - each ring tells a story.
A Statement Piece
This is a ring that makes a strong visual impact—bold in size and unique in design. Our Colored Stone Rings feature stunning gemstones, and one of the most striking designs resembles a jelly filled with juicy fruit. It has a double-layered structure, with a large rose-cut quartz sitting above natural, colorful stones. The sparkling finish makes it a perfect statement accessory.
Another standout piece is our
Kabuto Ring. Kabuto means "helmet"—specifically the kind worn by Samurai warriors as part of their armor. It's a powerful symbol of strength and protection, and this piece is crafted with delicate detail by our skilled artisans in Yamanashi.
Customization
Same as the necklaces we have options to personalize your rings. Pick your favorite 'kanji' Japanese character or choose your name! We can assist you in deciding. Each kanji represents a unique meaning, concept and word, it is a great souvenir to carry around with you everyday.
Bracelets
Bracelets are also one of the oldest accessories, like necklaces. In ancient times they were crafted with shells, bones and stones later evolving to metals like silver and gold which we see today. Nowadays bracelets are not only seen as decorative but are related to friendship, love, protection or personal style.
Bangle
Bangles are traditionally a rigid bracelet, they don't have clasps or openings. They usually slip onto the wrist and they can be layered with other bracelets or bangles! Our only bracelet at the moment is our Sakura bangle. Inspired by the traditional flower of Japan we have a bangle featuring sakura motifs with pink enamels. Perfect for everyday wear.
