Travel Guide: Trip to Yamanakako Lake, Yamanashi

Plan your trip to Yamanakako Lake, where stunning landscapes and outdoor adventures await.

Yamanakako Lake

Yamanakako Lake, the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes, offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji as you stroll along its peaceful shores. On clear days, the reflection of the mountain on the water is postcard-perfect — a sight that has inspired photographers and artists for generations.

The lake is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a variety of activities throughout the year. In warmer months, you can rent paddle boats or enjoy a scenic cruise on the Swan Lake Boat for a different perspective of Mt. Fuji. Fishing is a popular pastime, or for sports activities: water skiing, wakeboarding, or windsurfing across the lake’s surface.

For those who prefer land-based adventures, there’s a flat, well-maintained cycling and walking path that loops around the lake — about 13 kilometers — making it a perfect half-day excursion with scenic photo stops, cafes, and rest spots along the way.

In autumn, the area bursts into color as the leaves change, and in winter, the crisp air and snow-dusted landscape add a magical charm to the lakeside scenery. Birdwatchers will also enjoy the flocks of swans and seasonal migratory birds that call the lake home.

As the day winds down, find a perfect spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy the breathtaking sunset. The way Mt. Fuji is bathed in golden light and slowly fades into silhouette is nothing short of unforgettable. Whether you're visiting for a few hours or spending the night at a local ryokan, Yamanakako Lake offers a tranquil escape into nature — just a short trip from Tokyo.

Ofcourse we had some time to style some of our favourite pieces. Included in the picture is the Seigaiha wide ring. The Seigaiha pattern represents blue ocean waves, a perfect match with the location. Carry a piece of Japan with you in our Japanese jewelry.
